As the weather warms and the beauties of spring become more apparent, Frogtown Farm is growing stronger and more alive.

The fruit trees are blossoming and the perennial herbs and other crops are rising taller.

Closer to the ground you can also see life thriving in the flowers on dandelions and clover and native violets. For some these plants are weeds, persistently appearing where they are not wanted.  Others welcome these plants for their bright show of color and their sweet scents and their nutritional power. All of these plants – and so many others -- are key to the habitat for spring pollinators.

There’s a big stretch of dandelions at the Farm this year.  Some of them will be weeded out by hand at our volunteer Saturdays. Some be mowed by Farm staff in order to continue our growing efforts. Some are being harvested as part of the Farm’s new program on nutrition and cooking education. And some are being left undisturbed for pollinators.

Frogtown Farm is a place we share – with each other, with the birds, with the rabbits, and with the pollinators.

Happy Spring!
